LOL They've started—see above.

Because a character is the lead he does not represent the voice of the audience. Wow. And to imply someone who enjoys the show is implicitly endorsing negligence about poz issues is insane (you do not know my status).

But it's not validating it to show it. The show holds no responsibility except to be true to itself. Obviously we have very different views on this and I don't think either one of us will change our opinion—but that didactic approach is just what became ridiculous on the US QAF (Russell T Davies was smart with the

Umm the character on Looking has sex—including one fairly long sex scene. I dunno—I guess the show isn't for you, I'm amazed you stuck with it all the way through!

Actually neither did I—but I always saw the tv promos it seemed so still associate her with it. I loved the first and second Anne adaptations as a kid but didn't watch any of the spin offs.

(Though the movies of her work have been pretty awful—Handmaid's Tale which credited but didn't use Pinter's superior script, a Canadian film of Surfacing which almost comes off as anti-feminist, a ridiculously changed TV movie of The Robber Bride….)

At last? Maybe it's because I'm in Canada, but—and I say this out of love—she's been lauded and discussed a lot for the past 20 years it seems to me.

Yeah—I wrote an obnoxious undergrad paper on both, and comparing it to the similar differences between the excellent Roadside Picnic and its "adaptation", Stalker.

Not Avonlea?

As The SPirit of the Beehive said—finally! I actually just last week was wondering what had become of this—initially planned as a movie, but a miniseries makes so much more sense.

They already have a character with HIV and it's handled very well.

Serious? I dunno—it seemed perfectly in keeping with Pat's *character*. I don't think it was meant to be a commentary on the state of gay men of his generation in general. And c'mon—the awful US QAF (I love the original) didn't tackle ANY subject with a hint of subtlety.

I dunno… While I am not sure I give him this much credit, sometimes when you get in the situation he's in, it can be good to take a break at least for a little while.

Greenwalt is at Grimm I think? (I don't watch). Minear has been around—he's currently (God bless him) at American Horror Story—incidentally the one season that he was showrunner for because Murphy and Falchuk were too busy, season 2, was by far the best. Noxon is kicking around—she was showrunner on UnREAL last

Thrilled. Not so thrilled for the inevitable revival of the tired "it's so boring/it doesn't remotely reflect San Francisco" posts and blogs.

Oh you are right—he did still have a lot of choice and control—and it stands out because, with a few exceptions, none of those people have done similar or as good work off his shows.

Castle is my fave of her works, actually—but I understand the depression.

Did a little pop up graphic promo for Black Sails appear when that mention was made? (I watch on Showcase in Canada, so wouldn't know). That would be the only way I'd buy it was an actual cross-promotion.

With Joss Whedon it should be pointed out—at least IMHO—that often when his female characters have been at their strongest he wasn't the show runner (like Moore is). Whedon handed out his shows a lot—of course he was still involved, but—for example Greenwalt, Minear and Bell were, on various years, showrunners at

Exactly. Hey Showtime has Dr Jeckyll on right now—I bet Starz paid them for that little present, so that the average American will associate it with a work by the same author as Treasure Island and then realize there's this show based apparently on Treasure Island and watch Black Sails! So insidious! So clever!
