@kenboy127: Mac supports both at the same time only if you bought a machine with a 64-bit version installed— just like Windows and Linux. If you bought a machine with 32-bit OSX, you'd be in the exact same boat.

@ericesque: add an asterisk before the extension for the open dialog...but seriously who uses that? For me, it's either recent documents in the corresponding program, or hold shift and drag the file icon onto the shortcut on my taskbar (which performs 'open with').

Can't you just type the file name with the file extension you want? Then your drop down feels REALLY light weight— because you never see it.

I dunno. Microsoft seems to have turned the corner with most of their products. They're competing if not leading segments that they had become stagnant in.
