It’s not even a sequel, it’s a straight up remake of the first one except they decided to make it super campy for some reason which alienated basically everyone. Why they thought taking Escape From New York and adding in some random and bizarre shit (Snake goes surfing, for example) was a good idea is beyond me.

Yeah, I thought that was actually a good example of a filmmaker subverting audience expectations (unlike a more recent example I could name where it comes off as the filmmaker trolling his audience). Everyone expected Neo to end the war by defeating the machines but instead he ends the war by negotiating a peace

If you have to construct an elaborate fan theory that has, at best, very limited support from the actual film and is propped up by out of context quotes by the director from the press junket you’re probably trying too hard to like a bad movie.

Lucas tried to have it both ways; he wanted to do a 50's sci-fi movie but also didn’t want to give up the 30-40's adventure serial stuff that Indiana Jones has always been about so we get a fairly by-the-numbers Indy story with some weird campy alien stuff thrown and the tone doesn’t make any sense.

While I agree that, on it’s face, this seems ridiculous I think you have to take it in the context of the Clippers’ aggressive attempts to woo Kawhi which include sending team reps to something like 90% of Toronto’s games this season and trying to buy the rights to his “Klaw” logo away from Nike.

I actually really appreciate the reason provided by the executive director; these are kids who needed a break and it was more important to have good TV material than making these kids finish the competition. That’s great, these kids really shouldn’t be put through that much stress.

If they’re out of challenging words they should just switch to who can memorize the most digits of Pi or something. I’d worry that it would be more boring but all the excitement comes from the reality tv style production anyway so I’m sure they can keep it up.

Man the NBA is just the best. This shit is just larger than life; we’ve got Drake acting like a cartoon character starting beef with reigning league villain Draymond Green, a cartoon character in his own right, energizing the entire fanbase (love him or hate him, you’ve got an opinion) and it’s fucking awesome.

Yeah this, if you know the ref’s name it’s almost always because they’re notoriously awful ie., the Tony Brothers.

Good Omens doesn’t give us that much to invest in when we’re not watching Aziraphale and Crowley verbally sparring or wining and dining each other.

I actually hope Toronto wins because it will be a joy to see columnists twisting themselves into pretzels to continue the narrative that every team Toronto faced inexplicably withered and died and that the Raps should receive no credit for their opponent’s surprising collapse (except for Kawhi and can’t he just get

I agree with you generally but she’s also acting like an asshole about it. Here’s a direct quote from the article.

Magic: tweets “ Giannis sure is a great player, he’ll definitely win a championship someday!” — League: FINED $50K for tampering.

>TLH is overrated and Loeb has never written anything well enough to justify his status.

Most team names fall into one of two categories: completely stupid or unbelievably bland and generic.

So much disrespect to the Baby Blue Soundcrew up in here.

Thank you for reminding me that this book exists! Warren Ellis is my top all time comic writer but I refuse to read any of his work until it’s collected in trade format for obvious reasons.  Now that there are only two issues left and they both appear to be in the can, so to speak, it’s probably time to pick this

I feel like we have to give props to Marvel here (as if they haven’t received enough praise already) for being so willing to take a crazy chance on something extremely different when it was clear that both hemsworth and the fans weren’t happy with the previous movies. Most studios would have taken a much more

They are, it just takes time. They recently announced increased contracts for “elite” level players and it’s widely expected that the one-and-done rule is on its way out sooner rather than later. It’s a cultural shift as much as anything as some teams are heavily invested in the G-league system and see it as valuable
