The expensive components were donated by the company that makes them, and the foam board is what they have the most experience building with. Besides, it was meant to be a one-off novelty video, designed and built in a day on a fan’s suggestion

Once you have learned to fly on a smaller trainer, I recommend building your own because you get only the features you want, the ability to upgrade easily, and better knowledge of how your multicopter works. I believe that a streamlined bubble could be retrofitted onto these cars fairly easily, and if designed right would have little negative impact on the aerodynamics of the car.
