It’s mental health and poverty issues all the way around really. Two things that nobody’s really willing to touch because there’s no profit in fixing them.

My kids’ school is dealing with something like this right now, and the response that we’ve seen from them is horrifyingly bad. There was a kid in 4th grade who apparently has been bullying a disabled girl in his class for a while, and two weeks ago while on the bus gave her a bullet and said he was going to shoot her.…

I know from friends in the business that schools are very reluctant to kick kids out or even discipline them for violent behavior these days.  I guess the idea is that kicking the kids out will cause them to get even worse, which I can see, but if they’re a danger to themselves or others they should not be in school…

Two months ago they were trained on how to handle this exact situation. If they didn’t think they could handle it in real life after that, then they should’ve handed over their badges and guns. Instead they let 21 people die due to their cowardice and negligence.

There are lots of potentially viable options besides police as currently constructed. If you haven’t heard of them, you’ve intentionally not been listening for at least two years.
