To be honest, did anyone expect it not to be formulaic? And does it really need to be novel?

In bird society, animation is a costly endeavor, which must be underwritten by sponsors to continue. Insulting others for needing the capital required to make their art is considered, in bird culture, to be a dick move.

It's a little odd that they leave out asexuals entirely. They are admittedly uncommon, but it seems like they get almost no representation, and those that do are almost always portrayed as an oddity that's looked at funnily for a moment and then forgotten or "cured", or as a weirdo.
