That isnt a bad increase if it were just a year over year bump, let alone a new generation with such improvements and features. I can almost guarantee if this was a $1000 increase on a Porsche or Lexus it wouldn’t have been critiqued in the same light. But it’s GM, and this is new era Jalopnik. IMO

I fail to see the issue with this. Honestly, for the amount of improvements that they’ve made to this vehicle I’m surprised they didn’t make 79,995 as the base price.

My wife and I bought one of these in 1995 when they were introduced. We got a 4-door Sport 5-speed SOHC in “Brilliant Blue”. $13,300 and we only had to wait 3 weeks for it to be delivered from the factory to our dealer because they already had one allocated.

Same here. I had one of the last generation as a rental and had a blast driving it around northern Cali.

I see quite a few of them around and know many many people who got well over 200k miles with very basic maintenance... I can’t really think of another car for the price that you could do that with. Maybe all the people I know with Neons were the lucky ones... but seems doubtful.

The 1st. gen Neon was truly a design masterpiece by Tom Gale. I have a lot of feels about the Neon having been part of a team that launched the car to dealers back in the day.

Earlier models beat the pants off the later ones. Simple and better looking. Super stiff chassis, good suspension, and decent power for the day (when had with a manual). Not to mention if you could come up with an ACR or R/T. Extremely hot heat and extremely cold AC. I drove a purple (Barney mobile) base 5 speed 2

I thought these were awful cars...until I rented one to go to a friends wedding in BF VA and had to drive through the Smoky and Blue Ridge mountains of western NC and VA.  It was a blast on the winding roads (granted while going downhill - not so much uphill)

When the factory can turn them into race cars, from the production line, you know you’ve got a good car. Loved abusing my buddies over the Summer of Junior year, it took redline shifts and reverse burnouts like a champ.

I still remember the “Hi” marketing for this car. It was well done and really hit the aesthetic that the car had.

Land Cruisers are stupidly expensive for what they are. I fail to see how they are that much better than a Tahoe for a fraction of the price. I’d rather gamble on a repair now and then than sink a fortune upfront into the Toyota Tax. Heck, if I am not running UN missions in Afghanistan I would rather have a Sequoia if

As someone who owns one... not sure what you’re talking about.

This is a great answer. These things are amazingly comfortable

What you don’t pay in maintenance, you’ll pay in gas, but a Yukon Denali is a legit luxury cruiser with the reliability of a pickup truck.

Lexus is out

Because they have poor credit and it’s all they can afford?

The owners pay someone to steal it.

Why would anyone steal a Maxima ever. And don’t tell me sell it for parts - why would anyone drive a Maxima ever?

The real MPG, how it feels compared to an F-150 XL Fx4 that’s cheaper by a longshot, is that rear window manual or powered, how the ride quality compares to Chevy’s fancy magnets, if you’d rather have duratracs instead of hankooks, how the thing accelerates compared to the tacoma’s 3.5 w/ auto and the chevy’s v6. Can

Like that fucker cares about what is and isn’t concrete.
