For more practical applications, I wonder if the same processes can be applied to CNC machines which can "learn" optimum speeds and feeds in materials, beyond simple calculations and down to being able to compensate for variations in material composition/grain structure.

I’ve picked friends up in the last month - one around 11am on a Sunday and another around 10PM on like a Tuesday - both times, getting off the 105 to Sepulveda; it was backed up all the way up the exit at that light, then a miserable crawl through the tunnel.

I think it has to do with not having to train loads of workers to do something consistently (which is still subject to human individuality and/or error), while also freeing hands to perform other tasks.
