As I said, if that's even what they're doing... we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, that's much more the point I took from the story. It's one I agree with, BTW, just not one I see as within this particular bailiwick.
I do get that, I just think that this is more a case of one guy not adjusting than any real info on our modern world. Despite the lengths this thread is getting to, I didn't consider this a big deal, just thought I'd throw out some feedback on where this reader sees the line describing "the ways in which we're living…
I think many sociologists (at least the few pros I've met) might be offended to hear this called sociology, as there's no data, no comparison, no actual study. It's reportage, which is valuable, but only the raw material of social science.
I agree completely, and think that if there had been some science applied to this case, for instance a comparison study with other similar inmates, that's probably what it would show. It would be interesting, however, if it showed the opposite. In either case there'd be some science.
Because I come to io9 for certain things.
Read this a few more "time's".
It is indeed interesting from a sociological standpoint. But so are the racial politics in my workplace- that doesn't make it science, sci-fi, or fantasy, which I understand to be the subjects of this website.
I'm aware that we're living in the future- and I know because I've lived in the past. Like everyone else. This story is not news, it's not revealing anything we didn't already know- it's a commonplace. In fact, this happens literally every day- people get released from long prison stints all the time. I followed…
Buried pretty deep.
Good point about feudalism.
This reminds me to get on Facebook more often than quarterly.
Very interesting... but science? Anywhere here?
"We all feel that knowledge will grant us power of the things we dislike or can't control."
Oh, yeah- and people always joke about the big red bulge because while as a society we're just so very uncomfortable about dick.
The better analogy for Beetle would no be boxers, but something tighter, like a speedo that really showed the package. And if the frame showed nothing but that and his abs, butt, and whatever else the ladies like about men, I would draw the same conclusion: that the first and primary impression I'm supposed to get of…
The point of movies in this mode is to establish as much realism as possible so that the crazy feats look even cooler. And yes, everything in the Nolan films, including the Bat-pod, is fantastically simple and believable compared to pretty much anything in most other summer action blockbusters.
"Of course, we can't assume that's the whole costume."
Exactly so.
It's also a b3etter constructed, more flattering suit. But not nearly as easy to move around in.
