A legislator’s job isn’t to be in DC 5 days a week every week of the year. Their job is split between DC and their district.

I support parental leave and generally think the republican platform is crap, but having weekends off is not the same as parental leave. It’s having days off.

Travel to and from the district is vital to the job. Dems and Republicans go back and forth often, and catch hell from their constituents when they don’t. As a representative, you are required to maintain residency and it’s preferable for you to remain an active, involved participant in the community.
