“Under the circumstances described, I would get tired of being called the wrong name; I would also call the professor out by wearing a t-shirt with my name spelled out in all caps on the front.”

I have always had trouble putting names to faces. In thirty-five years teaching, I’ve mixed up Black kids’ names, white kids’ names, Black kids’ with white and white with Black, Asian with...well pretty much every combination possible. Do the job long enough and every student reminds you of some other student from the

I didn’t really listen to Kenny G until he played with one of our students who was battling childhood leukemia. Austin survived and thrived and was my daughter’s prom date. He graduated with a degree in music from UCLA a couple of years ago.

“Controversy aside...”

How dare I suggest that racism and systemic racism is bad for white people, even overtly racist white people? I would have thought it is obviously bad for everyone. I’m not saying the burden falls equally on the dead Black man and the jailed white cop who killed him; that would be ridiculous.

Better idea, cops shouldn’t hang on to the outside of moving cars. If she shot Wright because an officer was hanging on to the car as it was driving away, that officer is to stupid to operate a car, much less a gun.

What she could see and what she did see aren’t always the same thing.

Percentages like that are always half-lies. They give the feeling of a little bit of bad spread across 300 million people, but to Wright and his family, he’s 100% dead.

Spend decades arming and training cops to see themselves as an occupying force in constant danger and a few minutes teaching de-escalation and this is what happens. Even well-intentioned new cops will bend after a few years in that wind.

I was a union rep, and I protected the process. It often went like this:

“Anyway yeah, I’ll be shocked if they do anything for black folks.”

“Report: Florida’s Prison System is Filled With White Supremacist Guards”

“None of the news stories beyond Fox are saying that she is on the spectrum, and not even they are saying if the family had done anything to get her such an exemption.”

Whatever the story with the girl, the substitute teacher was fucking awesome! She should be teaching cops how to deal with people.

“...since at this point in their life they know better.”

The “special needs” classes of the past were often just warehousing classes for the worst students and the worst teachers.

If ne of them hadn’t been stupid and shot video of the event which he then released into the wild, these men wouldn’t have just walked, they would never have been charged.

“May, a 32-year-old father of three from Macon, had been arrested and taken to the Fulton County jail after he was accused of throwing rocks at the windows of the American Cancer Society building downtown.”

Well, she just re-ended another car; she didn’t beat an innocent and harmless Black man for no reason. I don’t think we’ll kick her ass to the curb like.
