Also, from Wikipedia: "South Lyon is a city in southwestern Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan, in Metro Detroit"

Good point, MontegoMan562. But a few here have been making a big deal out of the distance between the Silverdome and the actual city of Detroit. And in this, it is fair to point out the distance between the 'Dome and 8-mile (city limits).

"But if you REALLY think that Detroit and South Lyon..."

Which gets is back to the original article. Was it meant for the tiny proportion of readers inside the metro area called "Detroit" (which does include Pontiac)? Or was it meant for everyone?

I've been to them more times than you would imagine. And I've made it from Pontiac over the actual Detroit city limit in 20 minutes countless times.

The title is even fair: "Footage of The Abandoned Detroit Silverdome". There only so much room in headlines, and if you consider this as a slightly shorter version of "Footage of The Abandoned Detroit-Area Silverdome", it works. The headline is less meaningful if you replace "Detroit" with "Pontiac", because few know

Karpet: Not a huge difference to those outside of this metro area.

The point about the Detroit metro area would indeed be pedantic, if not for the strong emphasis on the idea of Pontiac not being Detroit at all. Which is repeated in the above comment with the idea that problems can't extend past 30 miles. No, sorry, it does not work that way. The economic problems of Detroit affect

Fritz: The best review of the 1989 Batman movie described Gotham City thus: "It looked like hell erupted through the pavement. Or downtown Detroit."

200 is shaving it pretty close, when it is closer to 300 miles. However, while Hagerty is nowhere near the Detroit metro area, the rest does not hold true. For one thing, Ford Motor Co is largely in the Detroit metro area. For another, Ford had a major downtown Detroit presence less than 10 years ago, not generations

I think it is fair enough to refer to something in the Detroit metro area as being in Detroit.

Just like hobo's. What could be better?

Was that the "Highlander" that had the awful wheezing old man?

One of of the worst examples of the "let's make things all murky and yellow-tinged" school of filmmaking.

I always figured that there was, due to the Federation colony planets, a great abundance of such land.

Might want to check it out, then. Every time I showed interest to someone, they would tell me to watch the original, UK one, instead.

I also think that a sequel to "300" needs to be "301". Just as when Natalie Merchant left 10,000 Maniacs, it should have been necessary for them to rename as 9,999 Maniacs.

I would love for the same team to make something that might be a sequel of sorts, or grouped with it: a "Galaxy Quest" made with Shatner and actual Trek stars as themselves, dealing with the same general sort of situation.

I liked "Jedi" more than "Empire". I expect no stars on this one, I've never found anyone who agrees with me. Nor am I interested in converting anyone to my quite heretical view.

Other than "Matrix"... because the sequels are so bad, I find it hard to say that there are any, for me. I guess I will punish myself and go see a sequel that is 1/4 as good as the previous film, in the dim hope it might capture the magic of a very favorite movie.
