In other news I’m about to make a birthday cake for my boss with a cute little piggy on top. Her daughter emailed me last minute and asked since she had seen some of my cakes on Instagram. It’s going to be almond cake with roasted cherries and whipped cream filling with chocolate ganache on top.

My best friend and college roommate for three years is a conservative, and was a member of the college Republicans. He was (and is) an exemplary conservative and one whom I wish the party was full of.

I am 27 and have basically given up on heels cuz fuckkkk that noise.

But she literally got handcuffed for trying to talk over the judge.

“If you can imagine it, it’s probably happened.”

I’m glad another school had the integrity that her school did not.

Holy crap. You thought Missouri Synod was liberal? Wow.

I’m ELCA too. There used to be a Catholic school behind the house where I grew up, but eventually it died due to lack of enrollment. A WELS church eventually bought the property to make it into a school, and holy CRAP but they have been awful to the neighborhood. The first sign of trouble was when the county objected

Fuck, Kara, you really know how to wrap up a post. That deserves all the applause!!

Here’s hoping that people here remember: THIS KID IS NOT HIS BROTHER!

My mother was raised Missouri Synod, and even now in her mid 60s she struggles with her “role” as a woman. Just last week I had to talk her out of quitting her final quarter of grad school, because she still feels like her role is in the home and serving other people. She swears that God is punishing her for seeking

In church elections or civil elections? Definitely no voting in church elections. But you can probably vote in civil elections if you vote the way your husband tells you to. Watching Michelle Bachmann finesse this was always fun.

The women are complementing the men. It's a one way street.

Wow, how did I not know about WELs? I was raised Catholic but went to a Lutheran College and wound up married to a Lutheran. I knew about Missouri Synod and always thought there were the normal Lutherans and then those other Lutherans. Who knew there was a whole other level of “Lutheran” intolerance I never knew

It amuses me when they say men and women were created for “complementary roles”, and then the roles end up being wife and mother for women, and literally every other human endeaver for men.

WELS takes it to a whole different level. Like the Missouri Synod won’t let women be pastors, but they can run the Sunday School. They can be on the church council but not the President. WELS won’t allow women in anything that might be considered leadership at all.

Men are so insecure in their masculinity and terrified a woman will do better in life they use religion to oppress. It’s disgusting. Me? I’d prefer the devil to their idea of God.

Oh and this is purely my bias I have never gotten over. There was a WELS church/school down the street from my house growing up. We always used their playground after school/in the summer. One time 2 little shits yelled at my brother and me for swinging there because “we didn’t belong.” At the time I thought the kids
