I had a 98 SE and it was definitely not the high water mark. The quality was already falling. I *loved* that car but breaking a bolt every time I touched it and the inevitable trunk rust were just not acceptable.  Over the long term it just didn’t live up to its promise.

The Altima was the actual evolution of the fourth gen Maxima and it is, indeed, downmarket.  They pushed the Maxima up trying to be a semi luxury barge.

It is so easy to get the exhaust wrong on them. I was behind a Coupe the other day and it sounded like a poorly maintained leaf blower (also with 5% tints and slammed, obviously).

Unfortunately quality also declined precipitously as well. The best Maxima was arguably the third gen. My first car was a fourth gen SE and, as much as it was supposed to be the reasonable reliable choice for my young self, it wound up having issues over the long term. The (common) rust under the spoiler on the trunk

Ah, ad hominem.  The go-to tool of any great debater.

And here you are again, trying to say the biden administration is successful by talking about administrations other than the biden administration.  It’s astonishing how people actually think this is a legitimate argument now.  At least you mentioned the infrastructure bill as something concrete which (you believe) is

They’re trying to manipulate and control prices, just like our government is doing here.  Everyone is jostling, and the way prices are actually determined magnifies the impact of any legitimate news or illegitimate bullshit.

I agree with you and understand what actually determines oil prices (which is sadly neglected in the news), but bullshit and brinkmanship is the stock and trade of the whole situation. Obviously it will even out over time...that is, even out to the artificially high level the change to the laws in 2000 enabled...but

Ah, but you hit the nail on the head saying it’s a commodity. It’s a commodity which, since 2000, can be traded as a pure investment by people who have no intention of taking delivery. So, sure, cheap gas isn’t a right, but the market is also affected by what is generally known as “pure unadulterated bullshit”. People

Let’s all keep in mind that oil prices aren’t governed solely by supply and demand. They’re also governed by “market sentiment” since the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 allowed people who had no intention of taking delivery of any product to trade oil futures as a pure investment.

You’ve now tried the “yea but what about <insert name of most recent president of the opposite party>“ argument twice now and you’re going to accuse someone else who is skeptical of both parties of intellectual laziness?

I get attached to things and I keep saying that I will “never sell” whatever car I currently own...but I keep selling them. I’m not one of those people who constantly has a different car, but I do eventually turn them over. Right now I just don’t think I will ever sell my FJ, despite frame rust issues, but history

Having a 4x4 is the best thing ever, and I highly recommend it.

ROFL

Legit, then.

I have a Vette and made a post about some of the stereotypes.

I feel like that stereotype is dead now. Everyone knows it’s pencil pushers riding them.

You have to be a moron to think that a Wrangler isn’t legit for offroading. It’s arguably the most legit offroad vehicle out there.

I’m suspicious here. Depends on the Jeep.

I agree, though BMW and Audi drivers tailgating...that one I think is true.
