also i realize a lot of you might be wondering why we used the word “theory” instead of “hypothesis”—it’s theoretical physics, meaning it’s got mathematical but not scientific proof. it’s logically true, whether or not it’s actually what occurs (that’s why it’s called string theory and not string hypothesis)

I felt the same way, but I reread AG about ten years later and got a ton more out of it. It reminded me a lot of Gene Wolfe’s novels — there’s a lot of stuff going on under the surface of the main plot that’s not entirely apparent the first time around.
