Exactly this! The forms of the old pop-up headlights were directly the result of mass produced lamps. With LEDs, this no longer need be the case. Headlights could roll out to match the existing forms or create new and exciting ones. Why not pop-out sideways? Or maybe from semi-revealed to fully revealed?

That was part of the fun of the original game. I may be mis-remembering it ‘cause it was such a long time ago, but figuring out the right path and which ledges were reachable wasn’t as clear cut as find the shiny outline and hold ‘up’.
