Man, I’ve seen quotations doing a lot of work before, but you’re putting that italic to work.

Then your guess would be wrong. I think there’s a melanin argument here.

Just let Blossom host.

Really owning that username, huh?

Let me ask you this: SHOULD Trump have resigned? If the answer is “yes,” than Cuomo should resign for the same reason.

The only one who did resign was Al Franken.

Your comment is a sequel to this well-written article: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/andrew-cuomo-misconduct-allegations.html

Lord, grant us the hubris of a mediocre white man. Two women have now resigned for being complicit with Andrew Cuomo. Meanwhile, the actual dickhead is still in office. As they should. But, if only men are forced to take responsibility under pressure the same way women do. It’s just so depressing that this shit plays

FWIW my SO works in tv news in NYC . . .and today they are sending him to Albany to camp outside the governor’s residence.

Orlando and Katy have a baby together, so I’m giving this a pass.  I hate to admit it but I occasionally refer to my partner as “daddy” when I’m talking to our new kitten.

Agreed. The menu prices aren’t magically going to triple if wages increase (no matter how much scaremongering people do) and if a business relies on paying workers next to nothing in order to get by then they really need to re-evaluate their business plans.

it always cracks me up when people point to the $7.25 minimum wage and say it’s intended for high-school age kids to earn, not for adults to try to survive or raise a family on... while they go to fast food places during lunch, shop at WalMart during a quick work break, and go see a matinee movie in the middle of

This highlights the other problem with retail jobs: the work environment sucks. Covid is exposing a lot of the downsides to our service economy. Too bad we don’t have the national coordination to leverage this opportunity.

Isn’t the free market setting the higher wage, and not an artificial government price floor, like…a good thing? Invisible hand at work, everybody.

I feel the same way about hotels. I worked them for ~15 years (16yo to 30, starting as a lifeguard, then front desk and moving on to various management positions, lastly in a call center) and I couldn’t go back again. I’m generally very psychically resilient, but the last time I managed a front desk I just... couldn’t

Having worked retail before, there might not be a high enough dollar amount to convince me to go back

^^This. Spent a bit of time - a year - working in a Western European social democracy, and I can confirm that paying workers a living wage Ames them happier and healthier…..as does publicly funded  healthcare that covers everyone.

Paying hospitality workers a proper wage and taking the onus off them to hustle customers for tips to survive (and off customers to pay them) DOES work, America, we promise you! - lots of other countries

Lets pay restaurant workers a real wage and end tipping. If the restaurant industry cannot pay its employees it does not deserve to exist.

Maybe yes maybe no. Sometimes people can learn, and personal experience is a great way to get through the thickest skulls. But you’re right, she may remain a hard case. Some people are chronically, willfully ignorant etc and unfortunately there’s no cure for that.
