Oh look! My daily morning commute!
Do you need all electric? I don’t care for the Volt, but if I got something that had 50 miles of electric range before the gas engine needed to kick in, I could get through my day to day commute on that and still be able to head out into the mountains or drive to see my parents without worrying about recharge…
People don’t like to hear their engine droning at a constant speed, because then it doesn’t feel like they’re accelerating. They’re also used to the shifting action. It’s familiarity, and it gets in the way of progress.
What “west” - Montana? Wyoming? Okay, yes, EVs aren’t suited to those places.
I disagree that electric cars don’t “pay back” their upfront costs. We needed a car. We wanted something less than $20k. When you think that the electric car isn’t going to pay you back, there is nothing that will change your mind. An ICE’d car isn’t going to pay you back either. Plus with electric cars you save money…
B) cars take around five years to develop – if you wait for high gas prices to hit before developing your electric car, like automakers stupidly tend to do, then you’re left with nothing to sell when there is a sudden spike.
