This is the reason why I am always conflicted about the concept of vintage racing. It is such a pity if they become museum pieces when they were built to race - but the chances of bending up an irreplaceable car is always a risk.

I was stationed at Coast Guard Airstation Barbers Pt. when Branson splashed down in his balloon off of Hawaii. I didn't have duty that day so I wasn't on one of the two helicopters that picked up Branson along with Fossett and Lindstrand. But I was on the ramp when they landed.

Wing windows. A/C crapped out and it's getting hot. Rolling the entire window down at highway speeds wreaks havoc. Wing windows were just the thing for cooling the car on the highway. I really do miss them.

FWIW, I just test-drove a Fiesta ST ($26k sticker with Recaros) and owned a 996 C4S, and, no kidding, there's a case to be made for the Fiesta over the C4S even at price parity.
