Thank you, this is beautifully written and realized. Kindness, indeed.

Just now dealing with the emotional impact of this. It’s been 3+ yrs since I got out. I left everything (job, residence) for the safety of myself and my daughter and mom. Self care and self love is so important.

Kindness is my first requirement - you, and all of us, deserve it, Michele.

So many black women are trying to be Superearner, Supermodel, Supermother, for a Supernothing dude (no future, no education, no money, sometimes babies everywhere, zero looks). Even if no one in your family ever told you deserve better, you need to always tell it to yourself, then believe it.

I don’t think your situation is unusual, which is very sad, & most of this cant be fixed until black people are willing to have some conversations aimed at truly solving how racism, misogyny & violence (historical & present day) intersect to inflict emotional & physical violence upon black women. It’s so much to

I have found that my experience with this abusive partner and my narcissist ragemonster father have given me a lot of emotional training for dealing with Trump. Not that the fear and stress is lessened since it’s an abusive relationship we’re literally trapped in, but it has helped me to mitigate the brain fuzzies

Hugs <3 Take care of yourself. I hope you can find peace.

“...it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won,” Trump said.

We seriously have to keep going along with this?

Because to them, it is funny to be a bigot.

“I have black grandchildren, OK, so it just doesn’t affect black people,” Teresa Roden-Delgado, another resident, said. “I am not black, but my grandchildren are and it affects everybody.”

I stopped reading after the Kamau line....I think Bell’s half thought out racial comedy gets no real Black critique bc he doesn’t have a very large Black following...

Can we address the fact that the acting in this show is HORRENDOUS?

This is how I’ve always felt about Black-ish. Seen a few episodes and realized, ‘Wow, this really isn’t for me. I’m already black and .... I know this stuff already. It’s for white people especially and non-black people.’

Mine is “snowflakes”. I become annoyed just by seeing that word.

“There’s money in faux wokeness now, so long as you can sell it to white audiences. (Think of the early work of W. Kamau Bell.”
For this sentence alone, I’d kiss you if were standing next to me. Glad to read I’m not the only one who noticed something off about this comedian.

I fell for the hype around the movie. Halfway through I felt hoodwinked - it was not what I expected. The ending was a disappointment.

Well, to be fair, the title is Dear White People. So, at least on some level this show (and the movie) was written to get white people’s attention. I always assumed it was an attempt to show things like hey there all you people of whiteness, here are black people and look, they are not a monolith. Their experience

Not the first time audiences who never watched the medium downrated stuff anonymously on a website.

I know most of us hate him, but we don’t have any power in this relationship until election. Republicans will not remove him from office. Vote in 2018. Do not vote for anyone with an R in front of their name.
