I think this is the summary that’s made me want to load up Stardew Valley the most of everything I’ve read. I recently played through one of the very earliest Harvest Moon black-and-white Game Boy games, and there’s little to do outside of farming, so instead of having the winter off, you put the work into building

Sonic fans take Sonic way too seriously.

And in my experience, Heart of Darkness “teaches” well in the classroom if the instructor knows how to frame it appropriately. Pairing up Heart of Darkness with Achebe’s essay about it opens the text up to the kinds of conversations about race that can be difficult to get going in the classroom. I have had that

You are not wrong on SRW... I’ve played various iterations on SNES, PS, PS2, Dreamcast, and Vita, and the appeal is almost entirely in fan service. As a strategy game it is pretty bare bones and *easy* on any difficulty level. They force replay by diverging scenarios branches.

The whole lack of English-language release is the only reason I’ve never indulged in a Super Robot Wars game, and this article initially tempted me to order one for a Switch (and also to buy a switch) but then I saw that T has no Evangelion content. The only mech-adjacent anime I’m familiar with is allof Eva and most

Fuck yeah FTL.  I still fondly remember the name of my ship that beat the boss.  USS Polaris, the starter ship with a teleporter being the key weapon.

Wow, big same on relating to H.D.B. A bit depressing to be sure, but on the other hand, the connection made it feel really special on those rare moments when I managed to get something right and earn someone’s approval - especially if that someone is Kim.

Dang, I swore I’d try to get through this entire column without taking a swipe at The Outer Worlds. But hey, here we are.

Thank you so much for informing me of the existence of Disco Elysium. I don’t know how I haven’t heard of it before now, as after reading up on it, it appears to be tailor made to suit my tastes.

I think I’m gonna get Disco Elysium too, it sounds so weird that I can’t ignore it.

Try Surge or Surge 2 which just came out! It’s single player only and very ‘soulsy’ but not as overwhelming with the stats, and you get to cut limbs off.

I started playing the Switch exclusively on the dock.  For some games, I still can’t play in handheld mode.  But for some (Hollow Knight, Cuphead), handheld works just fine.  It’s worth it.

I finished The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Man, what a doozy of a game. I don’t think the game was overhyped at all. After spending 120 hours in the game, I’ll take a short break so I can process that feeling of finality you get after beating a game with a satisfying plot. But once that feeling is processed, I’ll be jumping

Well, I hit the wall a bit in Surviving Mars, and instead of starting a new colony from scratch I decided to look through my library for something else that seemed relaxing.

She’s an economics professor. While descending in part from Bulgarians enslaved under Communism makes me naturally sceptical of people thinking they can come up with a better system than capitalism, when I took the required economics course as an US undergraduate I was shocked on how rah-rah pro free-market it was. I

Hey Gameological friends: This is my first week taking over WAYPTW (and I’ve already steered it straight into the ditch of my extremely niche tastes, but oh well). Everyone here is feeling the pain of Matt no longer helming our Games coverage (including this column), but we’re committed to keeping this space running

I would really love to see a movie about school that addresses the primary ways it not only fails students of color (in particular), but every other student who isn’t born with a mind and personality which naturally responds in positive ways to the arbitrary academic expectations and authoritarian environment the

I just picked up a used copy of Prey for ten bucks yesterday. I don’t know why I missed this game when it came out because I’m loving it so far. I’m only about 5 hours in but it really feels like System Shock 3 and it whips ass. I already have a ton of games I need to finish but I don’t think I can put this game down

You are so on point. The kinja problems with comments can be fixed by extensions and additions to your browser (although that just proves that it could be easily done within Kinja if anyone just gave a damn).
