I have lived in countries in which protests were a nearly daily occurrence -- and they seemed to manage to handle it. And in countries that are supposedly less free than our own.

The militarisation of the police in this country and their panicked overreaction is stunning. They are treating the protestors like de facto criminals. The people have a right to assembly as enshrined in the Constitution. Are the police aware of this?

The fact that the police will act this way, with the whole world watching, is beyond disgusting.
