I just started watching the incredible Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and in one of the songs (‘Put Yourself First’) a creepy-ass photographer wearing a sweater that says ‘Male Gaze’ takes pictures of singing teenage girls. He’s a dead ringer for Terry Richardson. The subtle dragging of that asshole was deeply satisfying.

But... but economics! Rust Belt! We don’t understand Middle America, and need to relate to their pain and feel sympathy regardless of how much pain they happily inflict on anyone else! Oh and not hurt their feelings by pointing that out!

Yeah, exactly. Which is why having a transgender woman play a transvestite man is a terrible mistake that hits far too close to home to very real and very hurtful stereotypes people have about trans people.

Came here to say the same thing. The article doesn’t make any sense unless you replace the word “transvestite” with “transexual.” Transvestites and transgender are two different things, while transgender has replaced transexual in meaning.

Um, I’ll be the asshole: that was terrible. Are we listening to the same thing? It was so blah— totally the antithesis of the original (or even a good local production).
