What was the point of this story? That you went to Minnesota?

You were an armed Maoist rebel?  Do tell

I wrote her a love letter in 2012 when she was elected to the Senate. I named my cat after her, and Biz is just as feisty and scrappy as her namesake. I mourn for what should have been today. A brilliant, kind, compassionate, nerdy woman that would have led us out of these very dark times. Senator, I hope you are

She has more experience than most, she has more ideas than everyone else, she is under 75 and she knows how to talk to people. Remind me what her big flaw really is? (cries silently)

I think it’s the over-55 and under-35 crowds that doomed her, honestly. I think she had reasonably strong appeal with white, college educated Gen-Xers, which (full disclosure) is my demo. I just think she skewed too far into Sanders’s lane to attract anybody over 55 and that she was never going to have the lion’s

I think it’s partly that her support was limited to what you are terming “establishment” voters. Essentially, she was really, really popular among under-40 college-educated voters, but not particularly popular outside of that demographic.

Sad I won’t get to vote for her. She was the smartest and most prepared candidate but we don’t care about stuff like that when picking a president anymore. Sigh. I think people just assumed a woman couldn’t win so she was disregarded in favor of the white guys. All the progressive fan boys and Bernie bros loved her

I’d say her remaining support is more practical. The core progressives bailed to Bernie months ago. Couple that with all the toxic shit thrown at her by Bernie supporters for having the nerve to run for President, and I’d guess 2/3 of her remaining base will go Biden. It’s what I’m doing.

We are totally ready to have a female President.

While I agree with her and Bernie on most issues, my love for Warren and ambivalence towards Bernie highlights that Warren’s supporters may not readily gravitate to Sanders.

you know why other countries have had women presidents and we havent? No primary system, the parties pick the nominees

Thanks for this write up; I think I will go check out the special. As the parent of a boy, I think a lot about how we expect boys to perform masculinity from a very young age, and because the dirty secret about machismo is that a man can never be masculine enough, many boys end up as men who are not just angry, but

I thought he made some good points, infused with humor. Ariana got away with saying things that Pete, a man, would have been gutted in the media, had he said them.

Thanks for this write-up. I turned on the special last weekend because I had an hour to kill, but didn’t expect much. I was pleasantly surprised at his storytelling ability, like you said. That opener about Louis CK was fantastic, and he handed the Ariana stuff considerately IMO.

All of these reviews that start with “I’ve been using this product for years” and end with “I can’t believe how racist they are!” are about as believable as the dipshits who show up here with a 5-minute-old burner account and fire off three “as a liberal Democrat [...] this is why I’ll have to vote for Trump” comments

If you’re trying to wrap your brain around why certain white people have such a hysterical reaction to the mere notion of black empowerment, just take a moment to consider what white people have historically done with their power.

I don’t think it’s absurd.  It’s an awkward play for his love, but she had been portrayed as romatically awkward the whole movie, and basketball is the way they communicate.

Perspective is everything.

We (white women) grow up being told that feminism is over. Feminists got what they want, and anything else is just crying out for attention. Oh and bra burning, because the idea of burning a garment is somehow always noteworthy.

So, when a young white woman starts to get it together and tries

There is no worse opening in in journalistic writing that “everyone/everything is/does X thing” because it immediately causes the reader to consider all of the many exceptions that they will inevitably be aware of in their own lives.
