I don't know about that. I always thought that Jon and Dany were the typical boring invincible fantasy heroes. Terrible things happen to almost everyone in this series, especially people related to those two (can't have a fantasy series without the hero's family members dying in awful ways!), but those two themselves…

I think it's more due to who the rape victim was (Sansa) than the rape itself. Sansa's been absurdly hyped by the ASOIAF fandom over the years, people think she's a political genius or future queen or "master manipulator", and then the show does… that.
