I think “having nieces and nephews” is the “renting” in this analogy :)

Most people don’t have the money to spend $10,000 on a wedding, whether there are 5 guests or 500. A lot of weddings have inconvenient elements that I could do without, but saying “You could have done what I did if only you had $10,000 to spare!” is ridiculous.

Every single first person article about being a parent makes it sound like a relentless nightmare from which there is no waking (or in this case...sleeping). I am sure parenting has myriad rewarding, loving, fantastic moments, but what I mostly get is “hellscape.”

I am choosing to write an essay called “Lizzie Borden Is My Feminist Icon,” and that choice is feminist SQUARED thank you very much.

I was gonna say they need to pop a Rescue Remedy or something, but your solution is better!

Ah, you’re being purposely opaque and bringing up something that has nothing to do with the original article or anything anyone else said. Fair enough!

Feel like a lot of people’s en vogue definition of feminism is “a woman chose to do a thing” and it makes me want to take a nap.

Unless I missed something, Amber Rose did not write an essay about how having a threesome was a feminist choice.

I’ll check out BlackMilk! I like Mata Traders dresses for this reason—I have four and I’ve had them for years, with no sign of them giving out. They run around 75-100 each. I agree that the mid-range ethical/transparent brands don’t get the love they deserve. There are also a lot of Etsy shops that have handmade, made

Oh of course. It’s not particularly sensitive to anyone remotely on a budget. But they’re not wrong that any floofy sandals Zara manufactures are not going to be environmentally or ethically responsible (ripped off or no.) They should have stuck to that and not made a broad statement about any shoe purchase in that

There’s a happier medium between $715 shoes and $60 fast fashion knockoffs. Places like Everlane offer a fair amount of transparency on their manufacturing practices and pricing. I agree that seven hundo for any shoe is a bridge too far for most people (including me) but that doesn’t mean the company’s IP deserves to

Yes, of course that’s possible. But I like to think that the C+ I got in a middle school Algebra class hasn’t really hampered my employability or happiness in the 20-odd years since. And the OP specifically said performing arts masters programs won’t accept people who didn’t excel in hs/college, which simply isn’t

Several accusers have come forward, so in this case it’s claims, plural. Also, you can support someone accused of a crime without cruelly, inexpertly mocking the accusers.

This isn’t exactly true. I went to Yale drama and while I had good undergrad grades, many of my classmates did not. Several of them did not even complete undergrad, and instead received an artist diploma when they finished the program. I agree that being a well rounded person outside of the arts is important, but it
