But you might find a slew of white folks who remember the days of their neighborhoods being "safe" and "quiet" and not full of "those people", when jobs and school placements weren't being "taken away" by "unqualified" people. Different questions yield very similar results.

Yes, please tell me more about that false equivalence.

Black people wearing "preppy" clothes can never be appropriation since appropriation involves a DOMINANT culture taking from an oppressed one.

This, from the director who included a grand total of zero Japanese characters in her movie set in Tokyo? SHOOOOOCKERRRRRRRRR.

I put together a quick bibliography for anyone wondering about the works of these authors. (I was going to post on Groupthink but I don't know how...) The Worldcat website shows which libraries near you have the books; there should also be a link to Amazon or another shop.

Iris Chang's book, The Rape of Nanking,

Jezebel Comment Threads: The only place where people trash Lena Dunham for drawing attention to a horrendously racist movie, yet completely gloss over a tasteless, offensive joke about labor camps.

I've just accepted it as simply being that many white feminists lack the ability to empathize or relate to the issues and feelings of women that they classify as "other". Lena Dunham being her usual racist, dull, entitled and boring as fuck self? What a heroine she is for "paving the way" for other equally as vapid

The writers and commenters on this site are openly racist. When a white woman chooses to have plastic surgery they are patted on the back and celebrated for their choices, but it is open season to ridicule and mock any non-white woman for that same choice. It's gross.

This is all coming across as really mean-spirited. If you have an issues maybe attack power structure/advertising agencies/etc. But so far there have been a lot of borderline racist and xenophobic "jokes" about how they "all look the same" wrapped in a cocoon of bullshit "worry and concern." If you want to challenge

It's the essence of white privilege: white dudes get to be seen in the best light (despite the entire army of FOX News-loving neanderthals who think feminism is worse than Nazism), while Asian guys are seen in the worst.

I honestly find it bizarre that it makes sense to anyone to say, "Those half a billion people over there, they're all exactly alike. Not like the 150 million in our country who are all different."

One problem with that is that it assumes that they aren't Americans (or Brits or whatever). They are, and it's alienating to treat people of other races as "other." They've gotten that since forever, and they grew up here just like white people.

Or classism (when it comes to light skin). More likely a mix of both.

You know what's sad? We all got so distracted by the "mutts" line that the fact that he feels the need to comment on how much he loves fucking biracial women and how pretty they all are just slid right past. :(

Do they? I always thought if you were of two races (whatever they may be) you were bi-racial. If you were of 3+ races you were multi-racial.

The "must be the nanny" thing is awful. People only say things like that when the people they're viewing don't fit their assumptions about the world, *and* they are in a position where they feel it's their right to act on their curiosity by asking questions that are none of their business.

FUN FACT: They can dress however the fuck they want, and i doubt they give a shit about what you think. How they dress isn't for you. Their bodies aren't in the public domain.

Oh my God. Are you kidding me? This is so condescending. I live in South Korea and I can tell you that although some aspects of women's repression here might be striking, it is only because it is not exactly the same pattern of repression that presents itself in countries like America. Simply put: different culture,

I know me too. My heart just aches for these poor women who have to live in such an oppressive backwards culture. I mean I know nothing about South Korea outside of what Jezebel tells me but it sounds like the women over there are in desperate need of some smug Western "feminist" pity. We should really help them out.

Isn't South Korea's plastic surgery rate artificially high because it's such a popular destination for medical tourism? If so, dividing the number of procedures performed in SK by the number of citizens might overestimate the number of South Koreans who have plastic surgery.
