CPO Mazda 3 is the correct answer here. The very DEFINITION of “luxury-ish”. Even the turbo ones have decent fuel economy. The hatchbacks aren’t the EASIEST to park because those C-pillars are enormous, but that’s a small price to pay for such a complete package. Maintenance and repairs should be pretty reasonable

There can be only one.
Yes, they still made them in 2000.

UK Market Lotus Elise S1. I know the Elise we got wasn’t too different, but there’s just something about the S1 that spreads a smile across my face. Might as well go with the John Player Special

As the owner of two Forester XT’s, I am torn on this one.

NOW THE ENGINE CAN BREATHE!

It’s time to point out that this car represents the last of a dying breed. Subaru had the WRW, a competent sports sedan, and said “what the hell, put that drivetrain in our most boring car.” Hardly anyone does that anymore, you can’t get the LT2 in a Malibu, ammiright? I think you guys answered your own question

Honestly buying a bottom EV is probably the best bet right now with the way the prices are falling like crazy, especially if you can live with the range. I bought a 2020 Ioniq Limited EV in January for $21k ($17k after rebate) which was a really good deal for the basically new condition car. However, now I can see the

Pro-Tip: If you carry a flat of AAs, you can refill it as you go.

I don’t know about that. I’d think the level of confidence to required to self-wrench on a 10 year old BWM diesel is on par with the level of confidence you’d find in someone willing to do some research, watch a few YouTube videos and swap out some parts on an EV. As you said, it’s all about assuming safe practices.
