Silva (not De Silva) has openly said that he'd love to have Alfa Romeo (his alma mater) under VW (his current home) and is said to have found Piech's ears friendly to the idea.

A better fate than under Fiat, IMO.
Exactly what Fiat has been doing since it's acquired Alfa Romeo. You proved Pierce's point.
Price is right, because Alfa Romeo ceased to be itself when Fiat bought it, which is what your impression probably refers to.
You're referring to Fiat models rebadged as Alfa Romeo since the 80's. But before then it was not so (except for the crappy quality).
Research Marchionne's statements about his plans for Alfa Romeo and you'll understand that Price's reactions are more than about a custom car.
Why do you have to wish me to pay more taxes so that more oil companies can be subsidized, more banks bailed out and more wars be waged?
The problem with mid-engine cars is that they all look a lot like each other. A front-engine car has much more freedom style-wise, without sacrificing the performance if properly done. Besides, I prefer to sit behind a long hood than in front of a scalding engine.
#1: aren't those executives the ones responsible for sinking GM? Let them sink at the old GM!
And its sweet sounds:
Actually, it's typical of government: release a trial balloon so that the people will agree to to the next less horrible suggestion.
Don't fall for it! It's typical government tactics. Instead of cutting expenses and getting more efficient, they suggest something outrageous so that you agree to the slightly less horrible suggestion.
