I don't know if there is much of an overlap between the fandoms of True Detective and Cowboy Bebop (there should be!), but anyone else think Spike Spiegel = Rustin Cohle's distant relative from the future (it's all a dream; no purpose in life after the final confrontation with the "monster in the end")?
