Being seen as a peacemaker is considered a threat by the radicalized. Because you’re going to marginalize their voice, or their inalienable right.

To break that system, you have to work from a local level up. Few have the patience to work through that system, as there’s no glory in fights over infrastructure and property taxation.

Couldn’t the same story be told of so many other post-industrial towns? Small metropolises like my hometown definitely tell the tale. As does the expansion of air travel.
