I agree. There's really nothing Bubba does that improves Forrest's life, like, say, most 90's Morgan Freeman roles. He floats around the idea of being a shrimp fisherman, but all that did was give Forrest something to do in the next step, which was more as a way to honor his friend's memory than anything.
