I don’t get the hate for the “General Lee” style cars as of late. Yeah they had the rebel flag on them, but that was kinda the point of the show and the car’s appeal. Even outside the South, the car has a rebellious attitude that’s attractive to a lot of people. And people still enjoy the original show (now the 2005

Honestly winter driving kills them quicker than sitting. Some of the brine they put on the roads is brutal now.

Reminds me of the guy in my hometown that bought an old turn of the century cannery 40 years ago and turned it into his personal playground. He cleaned out scrap from jobsites and demolition jobs, an amassed a pretty good collection of International Scouts (had 10+) and other oddball cars and trucks. My dad hung out

I present to you “Project Pigpen”

Oh boy another SJ Project! At least yours has the V8, mine has a VERY tired I6. Bought mine and proceeded to drive it 45 miles across North Carolina backroads, making tons of noise, spewing oil smoke, and pissing off the locals along the way. Can’t wait to follow your build!

One of these years I hope the sanctioning bodies tell Gossage and SMI to shove it. The track hasn’t produced decent racing in years. They’re clinging to that contract because it’s all they really have left. All that money dumped into promoting the 3 major weekends at TMS, and have had hardly anything in return the

First “official” (that being road-worthy) car for me was a red Tracker my dad received as a “Christmas bonus” (his boss ran a used car dealership on top of the trucking company my dad drove for) after my dad showed interest in it for 16 year old me to use for commuting. Keep in mind I was a 6'3", 230 lb lineman in

Helps when the only updates in Trucks have been to the bodies

Amazing some of these still exist in this form. A lot of those early Trucks were still racing well into the 2010s. I know of one team that wrecked one of the original 1995 Hendrick trucks in 2010. Heck, Matt Crafton’s backup for this weekend was built in 2000 originally.

Sonoma is owned by Speedway Motorsports, which has a chokehold on the NASCAR schedule. It’s not owned by NASCAR, but it’s parent company is VERY deeply tied with it.

Ah the W-Body, a family dedicated to the notion of “meh”

Opened this up thinking it’d be a Torch article, was not disappointed

Reminds me that the Jason Drives needs to come back. Was an awesome series and was the reason I subscribed to the Jalopnik Youtube in the first place.

Helps when I work on the famous “Zombie Dodges” on a daily basis

If I’m by myself (which is usually my Thanksgiving and Christmas trips to see the folks), I’m old school and rely on my trusty iPod Classic. Streaming services are nice every once and a while (especially if I want to change it up during the 16 hour trip and I’m craving some stand-up comedy), but a weeks worth of music

From my understanding they’re pretty much a Sportsman car with. The original cars used a Fivestar S2 Sportsman body, and “stock spindles.” They’re the same cars underneath as before, but now with these weird bodies that’s a combo of a K&N/ ARCA nose and tail and the brief replacement touring car bodies they used last

Just researched it, and I feel it should be mentioned this was the then-record time recorded in 2012. It was beat this weekend by another former NASCAR car (an ‘01 Monte Carlo still lettered up from it’s time when it was driven by Joe Nemechek) who beat the average time by 2 mph.

Ha a hahahaha good one. They are extremely loaded, they just choose not to run all the time because they don’t have that interest.

No love for the strong-running Zombie Dodge in the final laps?
