I kept tuning out during all the gratuitous rape, and I think I missed something, somewhere. why was Jax asking Gemma about J.T.'s journal?

I think that when he feels all the loose ends are tied up that he's going to steer himself into the same boulder with his dad's initials that we saw earlier in the season.
Gotta say, given Sutter's MO, I'm surprised they didn't.
"As a showrunner, Sutter’s biggest weakness as a writer—bigger even than his inability to edit—is his infatuation with suffering, his apparent need to punish characters good and bad far beyond any necessity of narrative or convention. "

I am trying hard to come up with some plausible reason the Chibbs/Jarry subplot exists at all, but so far I've got squat.
Smuggling the guns out of Teller-Morrow via a sewer truck. It's been a very long time, though, since Jax has managed to pull off something clever. He can't even fake a pimp's suicide right!
He has been woefully underused this season.
