Some thing worked, some things didn’t. The lead-up to the battle built up the tension and fear among the defenders beautifully. The battle itself was a mishmash of great moments and what-the-hell-is-going-on moments.

Actually, it raises the stakes, at least as far as Cersei is concerned. The Dothrki are wiped out and the Unsullied are northern armies are probably close to that. Cersei has a fresh, professional army, plus the Ironborn. Though I think Dorne will reinforce the North, if only to not leave a very time-consuming subplot…
