I’m just going to assume you live further away from the equator than Texas, Georgia or most of the South and don’t have leather seats. I’ve measured inside car temps at over 130 before. Leather or vinyl seats while wearing shorts is not fun at those temps.

That bearing doesn’t look like it would be hard to find from a general parts catalogue (looks can be deceiving because sometimes OEMs would special order parts that are just enough out of tolerance that they can’t be replaced with off the shelf stuff).

I keep a chevy fob and a merc fob in the same pocket. It is always the merc that has trouble. The chevy is older with recessed buttons. Used to have a BMW that would roll down all of the windows when some combination of fob buttons were pressed while in my pocket. 

I think the key is this seems to be happening shortly after the car comes to a stop. I think most cars don’t allow the trunk to open in motion, but I know trunks can be opened at a stop light. You are right, there is likely a software fix but just preventing it from opening while in motion may not be enough.

Yes to the car fob. I can’t tell you how many times I opened the trunk in my wife’s car because the fob hit something else in my pocket. If it was a frunk, it would be a lot of trouble.
