Yes, but one that was better hidden than FCAs.

If the UAW wasn’t worth over $7B, then you might have a point. At this point, however, they are just another corporation.
Keep in mind that due to the bailout the UAW owns much of GM and FCA. They are the biggest shareholder of GM stock. The UAW may treat those companies better than ones they don’t have a huge ownership interest in, like Ford. During the last negotiations, GM pay was actually less than Ford.
Eventually they’ll have kids and realize having a dedicated vehicle is worth the extra cost.
Jay Leno got in one and said the pedals can be moved away from the seat pretty far. It sounded like it was good for tall people (not that Leno is tall, he just pointed it out as a feature).
Car shares don’t work. Nobody wants them.
Mostly comfort. I would wager a number of the SUV drivers are portly. I say this because I am portly and can’t get comfortable in a lot of modern cars. The center console takes up so much space my legs have nowhere to go. The sporty seats are modeled to give you extra support around corners, unless you are wider than…
Right. By this logic should just get a Prius, because it will handle 90% of what people ‘need.’
I would think that the cost of an autonomous car subscription will eventually be far less than the cost of buying/leasing a car, getting gas for it, paying for insurance
Isn’t this the argument they are making for autonomous cars? They will make the penalties so big for not having an autonomous car for safety reasons it will force everyone to give up driving all together.
Give it a few years. Buttons will be in fashion again.
Modern automobiles are far superior to horse drawn carriages for the purposes of transportation in cities. They are safer, especially for pedestrians, require less space and are much easier to store. The fact the cities were designed for something as unsafe as carriages, and caused the streets to be covered in two…
What’s better? Electric cars? I mean it’s hard to beat a car for moving heavy things or small children around a city during the rain or snow. It is definitely hard to beat when there is a hurricane coming, and we need to get out of the city (I mean the government isn’t really going to help you evacuate if you don’t…
If you read the rest of Enginerrrrrrrrr’s comments, it was obvious they were referring to personal transportation in general. Maybe they used the phrase car to make the point, because that is the most common form of personal transportation in 2019, but the idea that cities were built around personal transportation is…
Are we ignoring the fact ‘car’ is an abbreviated form of ‘carriage’?
Personal transport has been a part of cities since before the Roman empire, and the modes of transportation used in cities for most of civilization involved beasts of burden and streets two feet deep in manure. In comparison, cars are way safer than what humans have used for most of history.
Well, we are NOT all adults. Even though my kids are past toddlerhood, I still get panic sweats if they’re around an uncovered glass.
