The impression I get from the piece is that Whedon is so accustomed to being surrounded by sycophants and superfans that he has no idea that he’s talking to an unfriendly audience. He sounds insane because he’s way too unguarded for the situation—he’s talking the way someone talks to sympathetic friends. If you read

Really, every actor in Justice League seems 40-50% worse than they are in just about any other movie. Fisher ironically gives one of the better performances IMO. He’s the only one who doesn’t look completely checked out.

Yes. What’s weird about this show is that, as lurid as the premise sounds (and it is absolutely lurid), I actually found it extremely moralistic, to the point where I started to suspect that it’s actually funded by a conservative religious organization to promote abstinence. It also gets into people’s issues around

Turns out the real comet was the haters we made along the way.

As someone who moves cross-country way too often, I’m always trying to come up with the optimal packing strategy. My most recent move was the smoothest to date, and I think it’s because I finally accepted my limitations and, instead of trying to implement one perfect plan, I prepared a separate plan for each

When I saw the trailer for Station Eleven (I started reading the book several years ago, but found it too depressing at the time), my embittered first reaction was “who thought a post-apocalyptic TV series about a deadly flu pandemic was what the world needs right now?” But now I get it. The way it hit me was like,

LOL so true. I only understood a few words in that conversation and didn’t know what he said until I read about it online. I love your insight about the Station Eleven’s similarities to late Shakespearean romance. I enjoyed the distinctive tone of the series but couldn’t find words to describe it. That comparison

Why not both?

Well, this whole thing is just fair is foul and foul is fair. Then over here you got favoritism.

Pogs are back...in NFT form!

I’M OUT!

I like him in general, but I think he’s wrong for this show. He and Noel do kind of exacerbate each other’s trolly tendencies, and his energy is too “on.”  Noel and Sandi worked because her sweetness balanced out his impishness. Mel and Sue were more goofy but genial and earnest. Matt brings a sour edge to the show.

God Emperor of Doom

When you put it that way, I see why I was so eager to move.

I’ll be honest…I love Wisconsin but it’s basically the Florida of the Midwest at this point.

I got through four winters in Wisconsin just fine on a set of all-season Michelin Defenders (the best tires I’ve ever owned). I mean, it’s not optimal—I did once have to shovel my way out of a parking space after a snow plow went by, and I imagine I could have gotten out of there more easily with snow tires--but it’s

Criminally underrated!

More like Citizen Lame amirite

Absolutely. I love these movies but they make no goddamn sense and are ultimately children’s entertainment. Empire, which is definitely good, is only remembered with such worshipful reverence because it’s the only one out of the entire franchise that feels like it was made for grownups.

I’m sorry, I just can’t see it. DiCaprio looks nothing like Powers Boothe.
