“where dozens of (white, male) scientists crunched data and ran supercom”
By pointing out the fact that the group of scientists working on this in Houston were all white and male, are you suggesting that the fusion problem would be solved with a more diverse crew of scientists?
How much money did we piss away on Solyndra and the bunchteen other “green energy” programs that never produced a single watt? Imagine if that much money had been spent on fusion research instead. Sounds to me like a whole lot of people in DC don’t know or don’t care about solving the problem.
the Houston-style control center where dozens of (white, male) scientists crunched data and ran supercomputer simulations
dozens of (white, male) scientists
“I’ve written a wonderful article about the current state of fusion energy. Now let me throw in a slight towards white men to completely detract from my efforts by distracting a significant portion of my readership with a completely unrelated aside." Whatever your opinions are towards the current demographics in the…
But what struck me the most from my trip to the PPPL was not ...the Houston-style control center where dozens of (white, male) scientists crunched data and ran supercomputer simulations.
What does the color of their skin and sex have to do with anything?
“dozens of (white, male) scientists”
There is a strange insertion of social politics in the middle this article.
Might be an interesting article, but I stopped reading at “white, male”.
(white, male) scientists
As much as I was interested in this story, I completely stopped reading after the writer felt the need to throw in that they were white, male scientists. Bringing up nonsense things like that adds nothing to the story, and makes me feel like I’m reading something done by an angsty teenager.
I’m curious as to how (white, male) is relevant to the discussion of fusion research. Unless you also include other races/sexes when describing all your other interactions with people that seems a little sexist and racist? Or dos that only work in the other direction?
Stopped reading after the white male part. Didn’t realize I was getting trapped into being lectured about your social agenda. I always forget that this site is a bunch millennial bloggers and not real journalists. Ironically, I’m pretty sure all the writers I’ve come across on these sites are white.
“or the Houston-style control center where dozens of (white, male) scientists crunched data” - wow... that just ruined the read. It was so good until you threw your personal agenda into the article. It adds nothing, and proves nothing... except how skewed your perception must be. Go work apply for the huff post lmao.

White Males ..why is that not racist and also sexist ?
