Exactly! And where, indeed, are the police?

Then go to a fucking racetrack or autocross. Don’t do that shit on an uncontrolled street.

There is a time and a place for everything. Car shows are not the time nor place for stupid human tricks in cars.

Not pictured here - ANY HELLCATS

I just don’t want to spend that much on tires.

I run my SCCA Chapter’s Street Survival school (teen driving clinic) and we rent the parking lot at the high school football stadium (it’s Texas so the high school stadium has seating for 12k people). A couple of years ago after the first Cars and Coffee meat in the area collapsed do to this type of behavior, one of

OP said “these events” referring to C&C overall, not Houston specifically.

You can’t be fucking serious. Houston car shows have been multicultural since the late 90's at least when I first started attending. I know several people that cite their time in a large car club as the beginning of the end of their own personal racist mindsets. (It’s kind of hard to remain racist when your friends

This is not a race thing. Stop trying to make it about race. It was in Houston, for gods sake.

I can 100% guarantee you that this show is not ”overly white”. Have you ever been to Houston? Did watch the video? You picked the wrong event to bring up those points about.

I’ve been a domestic car enthusiast my entire life.....and I think burnouts are obnoxiously stupid and pointless. If you’re doing a burnout and you’re not preparing to launch at the track, there’s a good chance you’re an idiot.

I stopped attending these events because of all the ass-hattery that goes on. Too much horsepower and ego combined with too little common sense and driving ability.

Probably a hundred grand under the hood

You set your infinite preferences once (prefs that would require as many buttons as the cockpit of a Concorde) and you can link it your keyfob or with any of the 3 memory buttons on the door. Hell, I think you can even shout at it “Hey Mercedes, it’s Bob” and your prefs are loaded.

Regular maintenance and not beating on it should do the trick. This isn’t exactly a hoonmobile, but you are right that any repair on this will be much costlier than on a Toyota even if they aren’t a result of neglect.

I don’t like them and probably never will, but for a big Porsche seating four in luxury this seems, on the face of it, a good deal.

The only part of your comment I’ll disagree with is limiting it to Americans.  There are stupid people who don’t care how gaudy something is as long as it makes them look richer than they are all around the world, not just in the US.

I take it you haven’t driven one.

I drove a 2018(?) Macan GTS at Monticello Motor Club a few years ago during a Porsche event. After driving the same track in a Cayman GTS and a new 911 Targa, the Macan was......amazingly competent. Most of us walked away thoroughly impressed.

A Tesla 3 would (combined with my wife’s Disco) easily meet all of my needs. I’ll test drive / ride one for consideration, but it just has no appeal for me whatsoever.
