My fiancée and I both refuse to live in places that aren’t warm.

Not a traditional car geek gift, but when a coconut fell from a palm tree I was parked under, my fiancee noticed my shocked face and wen the dent repair guy came by the house, she could tell how much this bothered me and slipped her card to pay for it.

Generally speaking, I’d check tires, fluids, and brakes at a minimum. But then again that all went down the drain when my fiancee and I bought a summer beater 2003 CR-V with 118k miles a month ago. We wanted something cheap to do summer road trips, and get rid of once winter arrives.

I’m literally considering one of these right now as a more practical replacement for my MINI.

My “buy a car fund” is at over $5k (not much much more though), so I bid...

I was about to say that as well - the R56 really was the worst. I have an F56, and aside from typical early build issues (which were all covered under warranty early in my ownership), it’s been completely reliable.

I did something similar on my Mini (because used BMW product)... except the friend that went along with me for the test drive and subsequent tire kicking is a current BMW/Mini shop foreman (for a different dealer), former Porsche tech, and spend close to a year training with RUF.

I’m kind of in love with this.

When it’s something I can’t handle, I take my out of warranty cars to a shop like this. And even though they’re just normal cars, there’s always 1-2 exotics and high end luxury cars getting work done there as well.

And to think, in only 15 years I can import an early build one.  5 years if Trump forces us all into Canada.
