I could see a gay Nathan still creating what, in his head, is his property. His defining characteristic is arrogance, not misogyny. The male 'rutting stag' thing with Caleb and Nathan could still be a factor.

Having said that, I don't think it would cause major script upheaval to make Caleb gay and Ava 'Alvin'. As long as they were still hot and vulnerable looking it still works. The AI uses attraction and the urge to protect someone to use Caleb. Not a uniquely hetero thing.
