The fb exchange has nothing to do with gender though... it’s just some uninformed person - not even being an asshole - making a comment who happens to be a man. he just so happened to get corrected by a person who happened to be a woman.

That’s my problem with the word. Historically gender/race specific insults tend to be frowned upon, for good reason.

I don’t like the term at all, regardless of its application. If a Jewish guy condescended to me and I accused him of “Jewsplaining”, that would seem pretty anti-semitic.

I’ve accepted that I can’t talk about what mansplaining is without falling into the trap of mansplaining. I’ll give them credit, it’s a pretty good trap. I’m doing it right now, so I’ll keep it brief: Just tip your cap and move on.
