Judicial clerk here! Being a judge is definitely not boring, you get all sorts of absolutely insane cases all of the time. My first or second week on the job I had to write my judge a memo on whether my state recognizes a constitutionally protected property interest in human remains, for example.

Obama is about to get swallowed up in that wall of flowers, but there’s no doubt that’s an excellent portrait of him. Even his posture and demeanor are definitely Obama.

Totally agree. The greyed-out skin tone and flattening of everything is just SO not what I think of when I think of Michelle Obama. She exudes vibrancy, strength, makes a huge impression. She glows, she’s iconic. This style of painting is cool, but it doesn’t do her justice. Not for THE official portrait :-/

YES! Great point, I think a portrait of Michelle should capture how vibrant and iconic she is. I love the style of painting, but man, it really failed Michelle IMO. I don’t know why I care so much, but I really want it fixed lol. It seems like a big deal! It needs to be right.

I love everything about it - the vast white space, the dress, the pose: it’s an art history student’s dream, there’s so much to interpret/discuss.
