The guy was really mad that people were hinting that Argento choked his actresses. I’d say that finding out he actually did was bad news for his outrage.

I’m a little surprised that there’s actually someone defending Tarantino here, but hey. Her memory of the incident seems pretty vivid. Or are you questioning her description of what happened, even though Tarantino has corroborated it?

How on earth is that “bad news”?
In giallo films, the murderer typically wears black gloves and commits heinous deeds. In conjunciton with his SFX team (typically Sergio Stivaletti [or Tom Savini on 2 films]), Argento will don the gloves for close-up shots. Exactly how is that such a horrible thing??

Yea, Maureen Dowd dropped the ball on that. There also wasn’t a clear line drawn by her from the Weinstein assault and the battle she had with the footage. It’s sensationalism without a point and seems a disservice to Uma Thurman’s intentions. It’s pretty clear because of all the dumb places this story has gone

I agree completely, he was being incredibly negligent and creating an unsafe set. I think the whole talk of making a double do it is just not realizing the actual problem, he made a scene that was impossible to do safely because of bad props, everyone going “well he should have sent a stunt double” is kinda saying

Uma’s lack of driving skills

Good 85% of it is people fighting for their right to talk past/be shitty to each other.

Nah, I have no idea what’s going on in this thread either.

There’s so much hostility in this thread I think my brain is refusing to comprehend in self-defense.

The word “lissome” is used to describe Uma as she details her sexual assault, so you’re better off.

Yeah this is a huge issue- Uma Thurman’s own testimony is straightforward and clear- both about what Weinstein did and Tarantino did- but Dowd keeps trying to weave this grander tapestry, which is a thing writers kinda have to watch out for not just in nonfiction in general, but specifically when someone’s recounting

Am I the only person completely incapable of following this entire thread and conversation?

From the description of the accident a double wouldn’t have fixed the problem, they needed a different car. She lost control because it was a rear engined car (a Beetle) with aheavy camera rig on the back - there was no weight at all on the front wheels, it was basically uncontrollable. Putting some ballast in the

The crash footage is no joke, Thurman took a big hit and legit could’ve been much more seriously injured!

Because it is literally the stunt person’s job to do risky stunts, and so they would be better at driving a rigged car with an unbolted seat on a sandy road than would an actress who openly expressed her concerns about doing it.

Stunt drivers presumably are better trained, and might better approach how to do the stunt.

Because context matters. How information is delivered can change perception dramatically (think Fox News, or reality TV). Especially since Uma Thurman didn’t write the thing, and her words are going through someone else’s filter.

Fuck that looks awful!

Not only could he have, but she begged him to. He fucked up bad.
