Domhnall Gleeson is an absolute treasure in those movies. He’s so good at being able to switch to whatever the scene needs—he can be the comic relief, the maniacal ranter, the oily sycophant...I don’t think anyone else could have pulled off the sheer bewilderment at Poe’s stalling attempt the way he did.

By the way, just for the sake of accuracy, it’s doubtful 45% of the audience even dislikes this movie. First, anyone can make an account on Rotten Tomatoes with different emails and spam the system, which haters and trolls are more likely to do. Secondly, the movie has an A Cinemascore, which is considered a more

I pretty much loved everything Luke & he went out in one of the greatest ways possible, as the legend that he was. I just hate the casino stuff, its only saving grace is that we got that kid with the broom at the end.

He did an excellent job, and ended up with the best film since the OT.

Well, right. . . for now. In two years, we’ll have Episode 9, at which point there will presumably be resolution to Episode 8. If you stopped watching the films at Empire, you’d probably think, “Damn, things turned pretty crappy for our heroes.”

I sort of get what you’re saying, but why would you start with 6? It seems to me (and of course YMMV) that these are all designed and were planned to be watched in separate thirds. But yes, I totally agree that it was cynical (shining a light on the flaws of the old ways was pretty much the major theme of the

Me too. And I suspect that many of those people will not be happy no matter what kind of SW movie is put out there.

And they would’ve complained if whichever fan theories about Snoke’s identity and Rey’s parents’ identities were indeed confirmed, or if Luke was Obi Wan 2.0 instead of a cantankerous old curmudgeon. I for one dug all of the subversions of expectations.

I’m so over the fan boy haters. Most of their vitriol stems from: “my pet theories didn’t come true, so now I’m going to throw a tantrum”. Puulease.

I really enjoyed Force Awakens and the Last Jedi. I assumed from the jump that the first movie would be vintage Star Wars to regain trust after the prequels and the second would then be cleared to launch the saga in new directions. I think both movies succeeded in what they were trying to accomplish, and both were

Well said. I mostly loved this, but hated a bit or two, but man trying to explain that to people and they just go crazy. I saw the original Star Wars in the theater 12 times (I was 8—talk about target audience) and have seen every one of them since in a theater at least once, and several of them multiple times. There

I have a lot of problems with The Last Jedi. Rey being “just a person” is not one of them. I don’t see why anyone would think it wasn’t the best possible revelation. Anything else wouldn’t have made sense, or, at least, it wouldn’t have been as satisfying.

In Lucas’s Star Wars universe, the ‘good guys’ lie like rugs and the ‘bad guys’ tell the truth.

VAGUE SPOILERS FOR TFA AND TLJ:

How many angst teens do you know who have not rebelled against what they’ve been taught? Especially after what Luke did to him, I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned to Vader for another surrogate father figure.

I liked that it wasn’t full of over the top fan service, and I get that the focus of this trilogy is on the new characters . . . but I was surprised that most of the classic characters were sidelined to essentially cameo roles. Luke was about as prominent as I expected, but Leia was way more involved than I had

After 2017, I honestly don’t think “Why would that villain be so stupid” is functional as a critique, anymore.

Kylo Ren is the perfect modern Star Wars villain.

Very minor spoilers follows...

Ren works for me because he’s the first of these cinematic “Dark Lord” figures that didn’t try to out-Vader Vader. The recent sci-fi/fantasy boom has brought all these characters out of the woodwork in menacing black armor, who speak in intimidating tones about “Plans, plans, darkness, Yesssssss”, and since Ren is
