The reality is that fundamental to just about every "chosen one" story is a kid being forced to step up because all the adults with authority have failed him or her or them. I adore that TLJ deals with that aftermath and does so in a way that I find both delightful and emotional.

FWIW I personally find it tremendously satisfying. Why should someone who did a heroic thing as a teenager not have struggled with it later in life? That not only made perfect sense to me I found it very affecting.

Eh. One, Hamill eventually came around to the part and has advocated for it since. Two, and more importantly, I honestly don’t really give a shit what he thinks of the part. He played it wonderfully and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

Also, nothing went to his head. He did the exact same thing in TLJ that he did in Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper. He deconstructs genre tropes, makes them better, and presents them with the utmost love and care. That’s like his whole entire MO. And he’s fucking great at it.

That little snippet FUCKING RULES.

Both great points. I’ve thought of Looper more as his take on a gangster film. But the farm stuff definitely has some Western in its DNA.

Interesting. I’m very much game for this idea. I feel like the Western has been subverted a lot. But on the other hand, so has noir, and he still found something fascinating to do with it in Brick.

Lovingly subverting storytelling genres and tropes is what Rian Johnson has done for his entire career. Absolutely there’s an argument to be made for making “straight” versions of all of these types of stories. But I’d never in a zillion years look to Rian Johnson to do it. His whole thing is taking apart stories,

Reviving and subverting is what Rian Johnson does best. Always has. Hopefully always will.

Why do you feel the need for this unnecessary storytime here?

He is exhibit A in why fucking Iowa should not be allowed to have such an out-sized voice in picking the president. (Nor should New Hampshire.) Castro rightfully called this out a couple weeks ago, but obviously none of the frontrunners will.

I’m fine waiting to see the film, but I’m super curious about who let their housekeeper get a copy of the script. He’s pretty careful to not even give away the gender of the person, but he seems to strongly imply that we would absolutely know who it was, so it’s not, like Storm Trooper number 5 or something. (I’m sure

Are we absolutely sure this isn’t just a Black Mirror episode?

I assumed that given the context of the article it was understood.

No need to be an asshole. Jesus. I mean, obviously, that it is difficult to create a regulatory system that can address this Facebook ad issue without opening the door to future abuses.

Ugh. No thank you.

Al the things that made it awesome, you mean?

I didn’t say he should automatically be blamed for that. I said I understand Apple wanting to take some time to figure this out.

The concept of what is a public airwave and what isn't is essentially fiction that we've all agreed to believe in this day and age. There's no reason those definitions couldn't be amended. In fact, there's more reason for the internet to be considered public than there is broadcast airwaves.

Dude, you are reading an awful lot into my comments that isn’t there. We are not talking about being offensive. We are not talking about being atrocious like Westboro Baptists or the KKK. I totally agree that as odious as those organizations are, the Constitution protects their right to speak and gather. We are
