in pop/rock/blues/etc if it works it works…
robert plant, tom waits, thom yorke, the beatles, christina aguilera, ol dirty bastard, mich jagger, chris cornell, etc…there really are no hard and fast rules.  if the sound of the voice suits the vibe, range, style of the material it works.
as far as who is "good"

this is a joke, right?  jimmy page (Paige?) never sang a note in his life.

B+ is generous…almost did not make it to the end.
just felt contrived and lifeless.

i've been following that guy for years…he is just a kick as guitar player in every project.  awesomeness.  his is great in wilco and plays his butt off…but there are occasions in the middle of a really intense solo where i pine for the wilco of this doc.  either way…it's all pretty good stuff.

i think it was patton oswalt who first turned me onto the audiobook…it is an audio legend now.

yeah stuff like that just leaves me shaking my head…makes me think i'm hearing about some weird joke/cult/scientology/brand advertising scheme.  His interview with marc maron did little to change this impression.

really enjoying the watch this feature…keep it up av club!

i'm still convinced that andrew wk is some sort of conceptual art project or extended andy kaufman type situation or a flesh and blood max headroom.

i'm a huge fan of nels as a guitar player but oddly the music wilco has done without the super intense guitar playing is my favorite.  has a certain vibe.

it's really fascinating to see how different this band is with Nels Cline in it compared to Wilco circa this doc.  quite a change.

definitely getting some spinal tap vibes (but better).
"the bigger the cushion the sweeter the…etc"

Moral of the story:
we're all just doing the best we can.
even if we're idiot millionaire rock stars.

just thinking about it is making me angry.  arg…booth jonathan forNEVER.

that is true….it seemed slightly unclear from his timing/inflection as to whether he was talking to a person or an answering machine (and i'm not talking about when he WAS talking to an answering machine).
edit: i don't hate his character…somehow i know where he's at.

some stereotypes are sadly accurate….

the writers chose well with the name for an appalling person….although they may have gone a bit over the top in what a completely vacuous tool the character is.  Once he really starts talking it is pretty insane.  he defines the term pretentious superficial overprivileged douche.

yeah but that's balaban the awesome creative artist dude in real life…not balaban the fictional therapist.
funny to see that.

couple things:
not a bad ep in general but definitely had the feel of a "standalone midseason placeholder".
thank goodness Michonne is finally acting like a human being and occasionally talking like one.  her mute angry thing had long since worn out it's welcome.  bet the actress is relieved the writers have finally

as an aside: even the NAME Booth Jonathan is punch worthy.  he just might be the worst.

Watt = legend.
