Just arrived after driving cross-country to be here for this. The weather is gorgeous and the pit lane walk is in three and a half hours. The grin on my face is starting to hurt, but I can’t make it go away.

I’ll say this: between Kubica and Heidfeld, BMW Sauber had two of the most likeably interesting personalities on the grid in the late aughts. It was a shame to see both leave the sport (albeit under differing circumstances) so close together.

What a great story! And the bonus for me is that, as someone whose daughters love to go for a ride in their dad’s 80s vintage oddity (and who like to help me work on it), I know exactly how blissful a daddy-daughter date in a cherished vehicle can be.

    Amen.

Refrain From Abuse does not equal Treat Like A Fabergé Egg. Quit with the false equivalence, those of you who are bothered others are bothered by wanton abuse of property not owned by the abuser.

I shared my story of doing just that. It’s just not the blood sport the people craved.

Indeed. Now everyone go buy a McLaren F1.

$1,000 and you can drive mine for a week.

Huh. And all this time I thought my distaste for the man was irrational.

Congrats, Alanis! If ever there were a good excuse to miss this one, you’ve got it.

I’m bummed to miss this one, Stef, but will Jalopnik be there for the US GP in October?

Advertising: It doesn’t matter if it’s good, as long as it’s memorable.

Only Imperial Storm Troopers are so precise.

Nix the pool and I’ve have no reason to disbelieve you if you said this was Idaho man.

    I washed a rental car.

The math checks out, even if the logic supports it.

I like it, in a “It’s cool to see that driving down the road” sort of way. But I’m still waiting for them to top themselves:

There’s one I would have considered trading for, but what he was offering would have collectively netted $50 at a local pawn or gun shop.

Ahem. I believe the term you were looking for is “flame surfacing.”

I had a guy offer me 15,000 pounds of angle iron for my E36 a few years ago. When I turned that down, he offered me an assortment of old guns.
