Its mainly because of the left's foreign policy stance on Israel. A lot of Jews support Israel (duh) and so the left is frequently mistrustful. It's why CRT has generally taken to classifying Jews as white. 

I think your explanation is right but I also thing this is barely a thing. I don't hear a lot of people hating on make up but when it happens I feel like it's usually women who associate it with the patriarchy.

Your comment is a good example of the concept of a witch hunt. It’s an often misused term, and is intended to apply to the notion that someone is guilty because they are accused, and any attempt to defend oneself is further evidence of guilt and a further offense by way of not showing contrition for their crime.

The fact a tiny number of people use the gesture to troll people does not mean we as an entire culture now have to start treating it like the "n" word. We can keep using it for its well established and normal meaning.

The OK hand gesture as a white supremacist signal was a 4chan prank meant to expose people's gullibility and it worked great.

You are free to hate churches, the super majority of which believe the Bible says that being bad is gay. But the AVClub writes as though it’s a given its readers at large hate anyone who goes to church. It’s pathetic.
